HARRISBURG, PA – Boyer & Ritter LLC extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Michael B. Devlin, a partner whose career with the firm spanned 47 years. Devlin, who worked and lived in Carlisle, passed away May 1 at home after a four-year battle with cancer.

More recently, Devlin, a CPA, worked as a consultant for the firm and was also closely affiliated with LeTort Trust of Camp Hill, an independent trust company, where he was on the board of directors.

“Mike was a consummate professional whose advice and knowledge was trusted and sought by his clients and the other members of the firm as well,’’ said Boyer & Ritter principal and CEO Robert J. Murphy, CPA, CVA/ABV. “He also believed in giving back and will be long remembered for his generosity and volunteerism with organizations helping our community.’’

In addition to his work with the firm, Devlin was an adjunct professor of accounting at Dickinson School of Law for more than 25 years.

He attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania before graduating in 1972 from St. Vincent College, where he earned a BA in Accounting & Financial Administration. He was a life member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of CPAs from 1976 to 2006.

Devlin’s work in the community included serving on the Carlisle Regional Medical Center and the Carlisle Hospital boards. He also served as a former member of the United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County’s Planned Giving Committee and co-chair of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society from 2009 to 2014. He was honored with the Alexis de Tocqueville Humanitarian award.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 35 years, Carol Ann Andyshak Devlin; and his sister, Juliette Devlin Milanese. He is survived by his wife of seven years, Fran (Ruscavage) Carothers Devlin; his brothers, J. Dennis Devlin and wife Susan of Pittsburgh, and H. Barrett Devlin and wife Teresa of North Carolina; three stepchildren, Nicholas Carothers, Camp Hill, Nathan Carothers, Upper Marlboro, MD, and Lauren Carothers Jelle, Camp Humphreys, South Korea; 12 nieces and nephews; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

The family asks those who knew and cared for Michael Devlin to consider a donation to one of the following organizations he supported: United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County, 145 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, PA 17013; Hospice of Central Pennsylvania (HCP), 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110; or the Todd Baird Lindsey Devlin Foundation, P.O. Box 724, Carlisle, PA 17013.
