As with any successful endeavor, Boyer & Ritter’s road to becoming one of Pennsylvania’s leading regional accounting firms is the product of steady determination and a focus on client service.
Our firm began in 1926 when Wilson R. Ritter, CPA opened his office and continued until 1952 when the firm became the partnership of Ritter, Todd and Haayen and which grew into Ritter, Haayen and Keller in Carlisle in 1971. Meanwhile, Lee E. Boyer, CPA followed a similar path. He started his accounting office in 1933 and continued as a sole practitioner until 1948, when he took on a partner and became Lee E. Boyer & Company.
The firm we know today as Boyer & Ritter took shape on July 1, 1977 with the merger of Ritter, Haayen and Keller, and Boyer & Company. A succession of mergers followed, leading to the creation of our Chambersburg and State College regional offices.

Our firm is also a founding member of the AutoCPA Group, the oldest nationwide 20 Group of CPA firms specializing in meeting the needs of more than 1,700 dealers.
Our private sector experience doesn’t stop there, however. Closely-held businesses in industries like construction and real estate, and manufacturing and distribution, also call upon Boyer & Ritter. We help create plans for success in acquisitions and divestitures and provide critical guidance for fraud and forensic accounting. More recently, we began offering clients impartial insurance reviews as another way to help them mitigate and control risk and ensure they have the coverage they need.
In the public sector, over 60 local governments, 20 Pennsylvania school districts and a number of colleges rely on us for accounting services and internal control reviews and risk assessments. From Green Book implementation to replacing an antiquated, paper-dependent system for the PA House of Representatives, state agencies throughout the Commonwealth often turn to Boyer & Ritter.
Boyer & Ritter has a proud history of not only serving our clients but also of supporting the communities in which we do business. In addition to participating with the United Way and consistent support of numerous nonprofit organizations, our staff and leadership also serve on many charitable boards and committees throughout our region.

- Cornerstone Insurance and Consulting Group, whose human service professionals can provide assistance with employee assessment, hiring and regulatory compliance.
Boyer & Ritter is also an independent member of the BDO Alliance USA, a nationwide association of independently owned local and regional accounting, consulting and service firms with similar client service goals.
