July 2006 Local Partner Appointed to State Board of Accountancy Michael J. Menear, CPA, was nominated and a Senate majority confirmed him to be appointed to the State Board of Accountancy effective April 3, 2006.
The State Board of Accountancy regulates the practice of public accountants and certified public accountants in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Board’s functions include the regulation of the licensure and registration of public accountants and the licensure and certification of certified public accountants. The Board is also responsible for the preparation of the certified public accountant examination and the establishment of a minimum passing score for this exam. The Board promulgates, amends and enforces requirements for continuing education and standards of professional conduct applicable to public accountants and certified public accountants.
Menear is a Partner with the public accounting firm of Boyer & Ritter. He began his career in 1970 and joined Boyer & Ritter in 1973 attaining partner status in 1976. Mike has over 33 years of experience in providing auditing, accounting and consulting services to various governmental and non-profit organizations. He also provides services to closely-held corporations, which range from fifty thousand to a billion dollars in sales annually in a variety of industries throughout the nation, while concentrating on clients headquartered in Pennsylvania. He has expertise in technology, software, service, manufacturing, retail, wholesale distribution, construction and automotive industries. Currently, he serves as Chairperson for the Firm’s Technology Committee and as an active member of the Firm’s Accounting and Auditing Committee.
Mike is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). Mike has received a certification from ADP, Inc., as a CPA/Consultant and Certified for Profits designation from Reynolds & Reynolds. He is an active speaker on accounting, auditing, internal control and taxation for Pennsylvania trade associations, develops and teaches continuing education for Harrisburg area financial institutions and Boyer & Ritter. He provides support and feedback on the training and development of the Firm’s team members. Mike is also involved in various associations. Menear is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
