B&R Welcomes Eric P. Wallace, CPA

January 2013 – Boyer & Ritter, CPAs and Consultants is pleased to welcome Eric P. Wallace, CPA as a director with the firm. Eric brings with him extensive expertise in construction and real estate services and in tangible property, depreciation, NOL, and 263A issues and will continue to focus on providing tax, accounting, auditing and consulting services.

Over the last 20 years, Eric ran his own firm, and was a Partner and head of the Construction & Real Estate Services Team for Carbis Walker LLP, a regional firm located in Pennsylvania. The focus of his practice was on all aspects of services to CPA firms, contractors/developers, and the real estate industry. He also provided specialized professional services, consulting, and training to CPA firms, CPA organizations, publishing companies, and construction and real estate related industries in tax, consulting, and accounting and auditing.

Eric has been an expert witness in construction related and other court cases in venues such as bankruptcy, district, and local courts in various states concerning liability, tax and accounting issues. He also represented numerous contractor clients before the Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Department of Labor, and state revenue departments of income, employment, and sales tax.

Eric is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, served on its Council for several years, and is currently on its new financial reporting framework task force. He served past President of the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs, past Chairman of the CFMA Tax and Fiscal Affairs Committee, and currently serves on the AGC National Tax and Fiscal Affairs Committee.

Eric is the author of CCH's two construction books, Construction Guide: Tax and Advisory Services and Construction-Guide-Accounting-and-KnowledgeBased-AuditsTM. These are extensive treatises of about 2,000 pages each on accounting, auditing, consulting, and tax for contractors, homebuilders, and real estate developers. Eric has also written CCH's audit programs on the construction industry currently in its sixth edition.

B&R Welcomes Francis D. Morris, CPA/ABV, CFF

January 2013 – Boyer & Ritter, CPAs and Consultants is pleased to welcome Francis D. Morris, CPA/ABV, CFF to the team. Frank joins B&R as a senior manager and brings with him 14 years of experience in business valuations, litigation support and income tax planning.

Frank will continue his concentration in business valuations and will be a key member of B&R’s Forensic, Valuation, and Litigation Support Services Group. He has performed valuation and forensic accounting services for equitable distribution calculations in matrimonial engagements, gifting and estate valuations, shareholder dispute actions, ownership changes, succession planning and various other business needs.

Frank is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). He is an alumni of West Chester University in Pennsylvania.

B&R Sponsors Project Homeless Connect to Match Homeless with Vital Services

October 2012 – Boyer & Ritter CPAs recently joined several local organizations to sponsor The Capital Area Coalition on Homelessness' (CACH) "Project Homeless Connect." The third annual event was held September 28, 2012 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg.

The day-long, free event is designed to provide outreach, services and housing in a convenient one-stop model for men, women and families experiencing homelessness in the City of Harrisburg and Dauphin County.

"Now more than ever, the CACH network of providers is running at capacity and strained to meet the demand," said Bryan Davis, Chair of CACH. Davis added, "This event brings awareness to the escalating needs throughout Dauphin County, while it adds to our efforts to help move families from crisis to meaningful and lasing success. This work happens year-round, but today we bring it all under one roof with the hope of making those critical connections – that sometimes literally save lives."

CACH is a voluntary association of nearly 70 service and housing providers, the city and county governments, and faith-based and community organizations whose focus is to find collaborative solutions for the needs of homeless persons in both the city and county. Boyer & Ritter Recognized Nationally as One of the 2012 Best Accounting Firms to Work For

September 2012 – Boyer & Ritter was recently named as one of the 2012 Best Accounting Firms to Work for. This annual list was created by Accounting Today and Best Companies Group to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in the accounting industry.

Accounting firms from across the country entered the two-part survey process to determine the Best Accounting Firms to Work for. The Best Accounting Firms to Work for list is made up of a total of 100 companies, split into three groups: 47 small-sized companies (15-49 employees), 45 medium-sized companies (50-249 employees) and 8 large-sized companies (more than 250 employees). Boyer & Ritter has been named one of the Best Accounting Firms to Work for in the medium-sized category.

The ranking of the 5th annual Best Accounting Firms to Work for will be unveiled at an awards ceremony sponsored by ADP during Accounting Today’s 2nd Annual Growth & Profitability Summit on October 28th – October 30th at the Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton, Florida. The list-making firms will also be published in the December issue of Accounting Today.

Boyer & Ritter Named One of the Best Places to Work in PA for 2012

September 2012 – Boyer & Ritter has been named one of the Best Places to Work in PA for 2012. The awards program, created in 2000, is one of the first statewide programs of its kind in the country.

The statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania, benefiting the state’s economy, its workforce, and businesses. The program is a public/private partnership between Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the Pennsylvania State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management, and the Central Penn Business Journal.

Companies from across the state entered the two-part process to determine the 100 Best Places to Work in PA. B&R will be recognized at the Best Places to Work in PA awards banquet on Thursday, November 29, at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, PA. Rankings will be revealed at the ceremony.

Jennifer J. Witmer, CPA Joins B&R's Tax Services Group

September 2012 – Boyer & Ritter, CPAs and Consultants is pleased to welcome Jennifer Witmer, CPA as a manager of our Tax Services Group.

Jennifer comes to B&R with over 6 years of experience in corporate tax and public accounting. Prior to joining B&R, Jennifer worked as a senior accountant with Dentsply International, Inc. on international, federal and state tax returns. She also served as senior accountant in the Tax Services Department at ParenteBeard LLC where she provided tax planning and consulting services to businesses in the middle market sector.

Jennifer is a graduate of Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in Accounting.

B&R Announces Promotion of Jay A. Goldman, CPA to Principal

July 2012 – Boyer & Ritter is pleased to announce the promotion of Jay A. Goldman, CPA to principal.

Jay's primary responsibilities include servicing the accounting, tax and consulting needs of the firm's auto dealership clients, specifically those located in Maryland and South Central Pennsylvania.  His dealership expertise includes working with clients on merger and acquisition opportunities and assisting in business valuation engagements.

Prior to joining B&R, Jay was the CFO of a $250 million, 350 employee automotive group, based in Baltimore, MD. He also has 15 years of public accounting experience working with a large regional firm and a national firm where he spent the majority of his time servicing auto dealer clients and managing their auto dealer services divisions.

Jay is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA). He is a former member of the AutoCPA group, a consortium of 26 CPA firms across the United States and Canada, representing over 1,700 dealers in the retail automotive business. He is also a former speaker and a former member of the Steering Committee for the AICPA National Auto Dealer Conference.

B&R Announces Promotion of Justin K. Schaffer, CPA to Manager

July 2012 – Boyer & Ritter is pleased to announce the promotion of Justin K. Schaffer, CPA to manager.

Justin has over five years of experience providing audit and accounting services for government, not-for-profit, and employee benefit plan clients. He also provides risk assessment, internal audit, and forensic and litigation support services for clients in a variety of industries.

Justin is a graduate of Bloomsburg University with a bachelor of science degree in accounting and a concentration in fraud investigation.

B&R Annouces Promotion and Welcomes New Associate Accountant

January 2012 – Boyer & Ritter is pleased to announce the promotion of Jonathan Maiolo, CFE to Senior Accountant.

In his role at B&R, Jonathan provides audit and tax services for the firm's manufacturing and construction industry clients. He also does extensive work with the firm's Employee Benefit Plan Services Group.

A graduate of Penn State University with a BS in Accounting, Jonathan began his career with B&R in Camp Hill in January 2010. Jonathan is also an instructor of the firm's B&R University program, our in-house development program for new team members.

B&R also welcomes Kendra Harper, an Associate Accountant working out of B&R's State College office.

B&R ranked #10 on this year's list in the medium sized company category. The annual list of "Best Accounting Firms" was created by Accounting Today and Best Companies Group.
